Autumn 1 

We have a busy half term coming up! Here are some highlights of our curriculum: 

  • English: We are reading the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?  Using this, we will be learning about capital letters, spaces between words, full stops, subjects, verbs and capital letters for personal pronoun ‘I’.  

  • Maths: We are reviewing learning from year R, Counting, recognizing and comparing numbers 0 – 10.  

  • Science: Our Science this term is all about animals and senses. We will be looking at different types of animals, including humans. We will also be learning how to gather and record data to answer questions.  

  • Geography: In our geography lessons, we are learning about our local area Hilsea and its features.  

  • Spanish: In Spanish we are learning how to greet people.  

  

Other Key Information for Year 1 

PE - Tuesday and Wednesday. 

  • Please come to school in the school PE kit: shorts or tracksuit bottoms in cold weather, white polo shirt or t-shirt, a school jumper and trainers. Please make sure long hair is tied back, and jewellery is not worn/ stud earrings taped up. 

 

Home Reading -  

  • Phonics books will come home from the week commencing 21/9/26, sent home on a Wednesday, to be returned the following week on a Monday. Please read each night with your child - this could be a mix of both phonics and reading for pleasure books. Please sign the children's reading log, which will be checked on a Wednesday and rewarded with house points. 

What to Bring to School Each Day - 

  • Lunch box (unless your child is having a school packed lunch) and water bottle. 

  • They also need to bring their home reader and reading log every day. 

  • If it is colder or raining, please make sure your child has a coat and a jumper with a name in. A pair of wellies to stay in school.  

Library Day 

Library day is every Monday. Please ensure that books are being returned each week so your child can continue to borrow from the library.
