Welcome to Year R

Autumn 1 

Here are some of the highlights of our curriculum this half term:  

  • All About Me topic- We will be getting to know one another talking about home & family 

  • Autumn topic-  We will develop our observational skills as we learn about the seasons.  

  • Drawing Club -children will develop their imagination, language, and early writing skills through a range of stories. 

  • Phonics-  We will begin early reading skills through the launch of our phonics programme, focussing on the following letter sounds : s,a,t,p,i,n,m,d,g,o,ck,e,u,r,h,b,f,l 

  • Maths: We will be learning to subitise, to count small quantities accurately and to compare them using maths vocabulary.  

  • Motor skills-  We will be practising lots of fine and gross motor skills to help develop our balance , coordination and control. 

Other Key Information for Year R 

PE – Thursdays & Fridays 

  • We will begin our PE sessions from 1st October. Please come to school in school PE kit - tracksuit bottoms in cold weather, white polo shirt or t-shirt, a school jumper and trainers. Please make sure long hair is tied back and jewellery is not worn/ stud earrings taped up.. 

Reading at Home 

  • There will be a Reading Workshop will full information on supporting children’s reading at home on Thursday 1st October at 3.40pm (Letters will be sent out shortly).   Please practise any words/ letters sent home in bookbags.  

 

What to Bring to School Each Day - 

  • Lunch box (unless your child is having a school packed lunch) and water bottle (no juice) 

  • They also need to bring their bookbag everyday 

  • If it is colder or raining, please make sure your child has a coat and a jumper with a name in. Also, make sure your child has wellies in school for OPAL play.  

Library Day -  

  • (Thursdays) from October Please ensure books are being returned each week so your child can continue to borrow from the Library.
